A-Z Blogging Challenge (posted at 01.25 am on Monday 4th April)
I've decided to join in with the A-Z Blogging Challenge. Here is my first post for letter A.
Accessible to All - one aim of the competitions I organise is to make them accessible to all, as far as is possible to do. This means the competitions are usually open to entrants inside and outside the UK, and to all ages. There will be times when this is not suitable or appropriate but generally that is the aim.
The fees to the competitions will be kept as reasonable as possible in relation to the prize, and in some cases will be free-entry. This is with a view to keep the competitions accessible to all.
Have you ever experienced a barrier when entering competitions?
Hey there, just stopping by from the a-z challenge. What kind of contests do you run?
ReplyDeleteHello Jessica, writing competitions. At the moment there is one flash fiction and this closes in May:

There are two short story competitions, one is 'Open'

and the other is themed as 'Full Stop'

Thanks for popping in.
Hi Debbie,
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to reading your blog this month. Thank you for sharing the upcoming contests. As for barriers and competitions, the primary ones I face are of my own making - fear.
Tommia
Hello Tommia,
DeleteYes, fear is a problem for many when entering competitions. It can delay some writers from even putting a word on a page, let along submitting work.
Anyone who enters the BURST comp receives a free mini crit which hopefully will encourage them to keep writing.
Thanks for your visit to my blog.
Debbie
Hope you enjoy the Challenge!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Helen.
ReplyDeleteDo you think you need to be an experienced writer to enter your competitions or might a beginner do well too?
ReplyDeleteGood luck with this challenge. I've given it a go, too. At least it should get me writing something.
Ann
Hello Ann,
DeleteThe competitions are for both newbies and the more experienced. IMO a beginner writer can do just as well as an experienced writer in these competitions.
One reason why I like to organise free-entry comps as well as those with a reasonably priced fee, is to a) ensure newbies can keep trying and improving their craft and b) ensure the more experienced can keep their hand in without (hopefully) breaking the bank in doing so.
I've decided to try an experiment this year and organised the Open Competition (closes September)
http://erewashwriterscompetition.weebly.com/2013-open-short-story-competition---maria-smith.html
with two entry categories, one for newbies and one for the more experienced. Depending on how popular this is will determine if I run it as two categories again next year.
Good luck with the challenge too, Ann, and I'll pop over to yours (and everyone else who has visited mine, plus a few more) later this evening.
Is this your first A to Z challenge?
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed, Katy.
DeleteHi Debbie - good luck with the A-Z challenge - and let's see if me following you works! http://lizy-expat-writer.blogspot.com.es/
ReplyDeleteThanks Lizy, I will pop over to yours in a bit to see if I can return the favour.
DeleteGood luck to you too, I'm sure you'll not run out of words to write.
Debbie
Hi, stopping by from the a-z challenge, it's nice to see that someone enjoys writing as well. It's my passion, as well as reading!
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteYes, it's a lovely community to be in.
Thanks for stopping by.
Debbie
Debbie I just tried to comment on your 'B' post but it wouldn't let me select a profile...? (Or maybe I did something wrong - but Best of Luck with blog! anyway.)
ReplyDeleteSally, I am still working my way around this blogging lark.
ReplyDeleteThese circles thingys are making me dizzy.
Thanks for your good wishes.
Debbie
